Equipment

No equipment needed - just your body.

How to do it

  1. Start on hands and knees with wrists under shoulders and knees under hips.
  2. Inhale and let your belly drop toward the floor, lifting your chest and tailbone — this is cow.
  3. Exhale and press the floor away, rounding your spine toward the ceiling and tucking your chin — this is cat.
  4. Move segment by segment, letting the whole spine join in rather than hinging at one spot.
  5. Flow smoothly between the two shapes at the pace of your breath.
  6. Continue for the full set of slow cycles.

Common mistakes

  • Moving only from the lower back instead of the whole spine.
  • Rushing the cycle instead of matching it to slow breaths.
  • Collapsing into the shoulders — keep pressing the floor away.
  • Forcing the end ranges rather than easing into them.

Breathing and tempo

Breathing: Inhale into cow, exhale into cat — let the breath set the tempo.

Tempo: One full breath per cycle; around 4-6 seconds per shape.
